Please read Chapter 1 first.
“I tried to avoid this by all means possible, but since it has come down to this I guess it can’t be helped.”
“Given the current situation, I propose that we thoroughly eliminate the threat. We are living in the ‘Age of the Internet’; even the poorest people have access to the Net nowadays, and everyone uses cell phones. We can spread a surveillance web across this network, and seize any suspicious characters that we find. We can even get rid of those volatile gangs posing as ‘citizen campaign groups’. If we find anyone suspect, just throw them in prison using any excuse necessary. Regardless of what they are involved in, be it fraud or sex crimes, our police and prosecution team will eradicate them all.”
”But if we use brute force to that degree, we are sure to have a lawsuit on our hands. This is a democracy after all.”
“Don’t worry! Our lawyers are on a high pay roll and are extremely good at their job. Besides, you know that the court is on our side. Any judge that goes against us will be promptly demoted. That’s the kind of legal system we have right now. That’s the kind of system we had the politicians and the government officials erect for us.”
“Well, it certainly is the ‘Age of the Internet’. Oh yeah, if they are sent child pornography they can be charged on possession of pedophilic materials, it would also make things quite easy for us. I mean that’s the reason those laws were made to begin with, right? Once we catch them, we can use the media to hype up the story too. If a civic activist was caught on one of those charges and exposed by the media as a criminal, it would also serve as a lesson to the other activists and deal a blow to their courage.”
”Speaking of civic activities, I won’t let those anti-nuclear activists off easy either. Those guys keep hindering our business over every little thing, claiming that it’s “too dangerous.” Those guys are living and working off of the electricity provided by our nuclear plants, the very nuclear plants that they protest against!
“They say that they are being exposed to radiation and will die an early death because of it.”
“They need to shut the hell up, they’re just expendable anyway. I mean whose tax money have they been benefiting from all this time! Ours! And anyway, they’ve had access to cheap electricity simply due to the fact that our nuclear reactor provides it. What an ungrateful bunch!”
”They just complain about everything. They can work freely as temp staff and yet they complain about being expendable cheap business. And they complain that a volunteer military is only volunteer based in name, while in fact it’s just a draft system for poor people.”
“They have been getting quite smart lately. Those guys go on the net and suddenly gained all kinds of information.”
“Speaking of gains, I wonder how we will spend ours. Up until now we’ve used our capital to move our staff and factories overseas to keep labor costs down, and that has increased our revenue greatly. So far we’ve entrusted those profits to our financier in an attempt to increase profit even more, but I wonder just how much progress our financier has made on that.”
”Hey, bad news! That financier seems to have gone bankrupt!”
“Oh no, an accident has occurred at the nuclear reactor! There’s been mass radiation leakage, and the local citizens are evacuating the area!”
The rich started to analyze the situation, and several days later opened an urgent conference. Given the current circumstances, this could be their very last conference of all.
